Can You Watch ITVX Abroad?

Yes, you can watch ITVX abroad by bypassing its geo-restrictions, as the service is officially limited to the UK. Hide Expert VPN provides UK servers that help access ITVX from outside the country.

Is ITVX available outside the UK?

ITVX (formerly ITV Hub) restricts its content to users located within the United Kingdom. If you access ITVX from abroad, most shows and live streams will be unavailable, and you’ll likely see an error message about content not being available in your region. ITVX determines your location based on your device’s IP address, which reveals your country to the service.

What geo-restrictions apply to ITVX abroad?

ITVX applies geo-blocks to nearly all on-demand shows and live content. The platform checks your IP address every time you try to stream. If your IP is not from the UK, access is denied for most content, including live sports, drama series, and reality TV. Some non-UK shows or trailers may play elsewhere, but full access requires a UK IP.

Can you watch ITVX abroad by using VPNs or other tools?

To access ITVX abroad, you need a UK IP address. The main ways to get this are:

  • VPN (Virtual Private Network): A VPN routes your internet connection through a server in the UK, giving you a UK IP address. Services like Hide Expert VPN offer UK-based servers, allowing you to stream ITVX as if you were in the UK.
  • Smart DNS: This tool redirects only part of your internet traffic, making it appear as if you’re accessing from the UK. It works for some streaming platforms but may not be as robust as a VPN.
  • Proxy servers: Proxies can change your apparent location, but many streaming sites detect and block proxies more aggressively than VPNs.

For step-by-step instructions on using a VPN for streaming, see our article on accessing a website from another country. Note that ITVX actively blocks some VPN and proxy services; if one server doesn’t work, you may need to try another or contact your VPN support.

Legal considerations for accessing ITVX from another country

Accessing ITVX from abroad may violate ITVX’s terms of service, which state that content is licensed only for UK audiences. While using a VPN is legal in most countries, streaming while appearing to be in the UK could breach ITVX’s user agreement. ITVX may suspend accounts that break these rules. Always check both your local laws and the streaming service’s terms before proceeding. Streaming copyright-protected material without authorization is not allowed.

Summary: What to do if you want to watch ITVX abroad

  1. Check if your show or live event is available in your country directly.
  2. If not, choose a reputable VPN or Smart DNS service with UK servers.
  3. Connect to a UK server and try accessing ITVX again.
  4. If you see a region error, switch servers or contact support.
  5. Review ITVX’s terms and your local laws before streaming.

By following these steps, you can often access ITVX from outside the UK, but always stay informed about the legal and service terms that apply.
